To Knit or Crochet...that is the question (Discussion)

I know this may contradict my creation of a knitting community, but I find crocheting to be very simple in comparison to knitting. I know this is like comparing skiiing and snowboarding; each technique comes with it’s own positives and negatives. But, I want to know, what do you prefer?

After giving knitting another whirl, I’ve changed my mind. The motion seems smoother and you don’t get the satisfaction of the clicking needles with a hook. Plus, if you’re on the subway knitting and you happen to have an annoying seat mate, voila! You now have two poking devices!

At this point it’s crochet – but then I could figure that out by myself with books & actually create things in a variety of patterns etc. (Tried to do same with knitting but no matter what I did all I ever got was a garter stitch.) No pressure but I’ve high hopes of this series as I’ve my materials & possible patterns in mind :-) As for your public transport uses – I’ve always preferred carrying a dissection/autopsy/heavily illustrated med textbook :-)

haha! Yes, I can definitely see how that would scare people off! I once saw someone on the subway studying some sort of biology diagram and I asked them, “hey, are you going to be a doctor?” and they were like “yes…eventually”. So I guess in that case, they didn’t get rid of this annoying seat mate!

Back to knitting vs. crochet though, I hope to do more lessons including how to increase, decrease and other fancy things. With crocheting there’s also a lot of variety in the type of projects you can make. I always remember my grandma crocheting little white doilies for the cottage! Crocheting is also good in the tool department as you only have to keep track of one thing and your yarn!
